Mason County Development Incentives

  • The New Market Tax Credits (NMTC) program is administered by the U.S. Treasury Department's Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. It provides additional financing options for projects in distressed communities.

  • The HUBZone (Historically Underutilized Business Zones) Program, managed by the Small Business Administration (SBA), helps small businesses in economically distressed areas gain preferential access to federal contracting opportunities.

  • Opportunity Zones are designated census tracts that offer federal tax incentives for investments in economically distressed areas.
    Mason County has two Opportunity Zones:

    • One in Kamilche, designated by the Squaxin Island Tribe

    • One on the northern edge of the Shelton Urban Growth Area (UGA)

  • The Commerce Site Readiness Grant program helps local governments and ports prepare industrial sites for future development.

  • The Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) provides funding for public infrastructure projects that support business growth and job creation.

  • The Public Works Trust Fund (PWTF) offers low-interest loans to local governments to finance critical public infrastructure.
