New Business Spotlight: Mess Makers Clubhouse – Shelton's First Indoor Play Space for Children Ages 0-12
Mason County, WA – June 25, 2026 – Families in Mason County have a new place to gather, play, and connect with the opening of Mess Makers Clubhouse in downtown Shelton. Designed for children ages 0-12, the indoor play space offers imaginative play, hands-on activities, reading corners, interactive gaming, and creative spaces where kids can explore while parents and caregivers connect with one another.
Behind the business is founder Sandee Lalane whose career has always centered around children and families. As a teen mom looking for work, she showed up at Tutor Time every morning at 5 a.m. for two weeks until she was given a chance. That opportunity led to a career in early learning, eventually serving as an assistant director before moving into home visiting and parent support programs.
Along the way, she noticed something was missing. Families wanted more places where children could play safely and parents could simply be together. "People need to rely on people," she said. That idea became the foundation for Mess Makers Clubhouse.
Planning for the business began about three years ago. After moving to Mason County in 2019, she saw an opportunity to create something that would serve local families while building community. As the clubhouse grows, she hopes to expand beyond play by offering programs and resources that continue supporting families in meaningful ways.
At MasonEDC, this business stood out for another reason. Recently, we have wrapped up our Childcare Partnership Grant project, which focused on understanding the childcare challenges facing Mason County. Throughout that work, one message came up again and again: families need more support.
Mess Makers Clubhouse isn't a childcare provider, but it reflects that same need. It gives families another place to gather, build relationships, and let children learn through play. While it won't solve Mason County's childcare shortage, it is another example of a local entrepreneur responding to what families have been asking for.
Mess Makers Clubhouse is Shelton's first indoor play space for children ages 0–12. Admission is currently $11 per child and $9 for each additional sibling. One feature families are sure to appreciate is the "come and go" option, which allows your admission to remain valid all day if you need to run errands or grab lunch before coming back to play.
Located at 218 N. 1st Street in downtown Shelton, Mess Makers Clubhouse also hosts a variety of family-friendly activities throughout the month, including LEGO Build Night (ages 7 and up), Moms Unplugged every third Friday, Cozy Corner Story Time every Friday, and Tiny Experiments every Sunday.
