Port of Shelton, Mason PUD 3 Secure Federal Economic Development Funds
Shelton, WA – The Economic Development Administration (EDA) has announced that the Port of Shelton will be awarded $100,000 to partner with Mason County PUD 3 on the expansion of a substation at Sanderson Field. The funding will support a feasibility study and is provided through the 2023 Disaster Supplemental funding package, designed to aid communities in economic recovery and revitalization following a presidential disaster declaration.
“The Port of Shelton is excited to see this project move forward with funding from the Economic Development Administration,” said Wendy Smith, Executive Director of the Port of Shelton. “The Port is home to manufacturing, recreational, and public safety organizations that will benefit from this project, and it will further help us attract new opportunities to our community.”
The substation will serve development within the Port’s Sanderson Field airport and industrial park. Once completed, the project will strengthen the local economy and promote economic growth throughout the region.
“PUD 3 plays a critical role in supporting economic development in Mason County and views this project as part of our overall strategy to ensure regional competitiveness. Securing federal grant funding for projects allows us to build infrastructure while maintaining affordable rates for our customers,” said Annette Creekpaum, PUD 3’s CEO.
The Economic Development Council of Mason County (EDC) supported the funding application and is enthusiastic about the partnerships this project fosters.
“This award highlights the power of partnerships in Mason County,” said Kevin Shutty, Executive Director of the Mason County EDC. “By working together on shared goals, we can advance our economic development agenda to bring jobs and housing to Mason County. This funding will kickstart a project vital to achieving those goals.”
Since May, the EDC has helped secure more than $400,000 to support economic development initiatives in Mason County.
